Meet Andy and Ashley
Welcome to our family, Ashley and Andy. We have been married for 17 years and reside in the Mat-Su area. We do not have any of our own children, we have spent a lot of time assisting with family members’ and friends’ child raising and are very excited to have a permanent young adventurer join our home. We love Alaska and enjoy all the typical outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, riding ATVs, snowmachines, skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing and fishing. Our family home is located on a large piece of property that allows many outdoor activities right at home and is near other family members.
Andy has worked as a Bed Truck Operator (for 15 years) and I, Ashley, am a Paramedic with an emergency services department (for 19 years). Our unique schedules with shift work give us a lot of available time with our family and for additional activities. In addition to a very supportive network of extended family and friends, the emergency services department is another supportive family able to lend experienced hands to anything we might need for a child joining our family.
We have several large dogs who love having children in the home and a bustling environment. We previously used to conduct professional canine training in our free time and our dogs are now retired but well behaved, enjoying their focus on home life. We also have a flock of chickens who roam the chicken yard, providing fresh eggs.
Besides our outdoor activities, we enjoy traveling and exploring. Our most enjoyed trips are coordinated family trips that are full of excitement and educational opportunities. Maui has been our favorite vacation spot and is amazingly geared towards families. Another hobby of ours is working on projects, specifically the construction of our home, with the initial construction and now updated projects as time allows. Safety is always utmost importance but as children grow they have been eager to learn some age-appropriate skills to assist.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our family. We have been excited for the opportunity to see our family grow and look forward to the joys of parenting full time, from the youngest years of the beautiful smiles and diaper blowouts to the growing years of a child’s excitement of a new activity and drawing on walls =)
If we are selected, we hope to keep in touch with the child’s birth family to share in the growth of the child, with their successes, challenges, and all the beautiful genetic traits the child will have. We also would like to incorporate some similar traditions (especially cultural) that the birth family can provide knowledge on and have open communication regarding.
